Working to Rule

Work to rules

Working to rule means following AT&T’s policies and procedures exactly as the company has written them, it means making sure that each customer receives the best possible experience with each interaction, and NOT TAKING ANY SHORTCUTS.

I DO THAT ALL THE TIME, WHAT’S DIFFERENT NOW?

As CWA members we pride ourselves on quality service and building unique rapports we each customer. While we are currently working without a contract it is now more important than ever to follow ALL rules or policies, procedures and the Company COBC.  This includes (but is not limited to) proper time coding, following your schedules, safety checks and any other rules that the Company has written.  At times we may create shortcuts because it is the best practice for us as an employee, however now is NOT the time to do that.

FOLLOW THE RULES AS GIVEN - NOTHING LESS.

WHAT WILL HAPPENED IF I’M DISCIPLINED?

You can still file a grievance however we currently no longer have the last step of the formal complaint process in effect.  When we have a labor agreement in place, if we are unfairly disciplined (including termination), or the company commits a contract violation, we have a right to bring our formal complaint (grievance) in front of a neutral 3rd party (an Arbitrator). This step is called Arbitration.  For example: If you are disciplined for not following the Company’s policies or procedures as written, we currently do not have the ability to present your case to an arbitrator to decide if the company’s actions against you were appropriate.
